The regulation is an essential step to strengthen citizens' fundamental rights in the digital age and facilitate business by simplifying rules for companies in the digital single market. Everyone has the right to know if any personal data concerning him or her is being processed and to what purpose it is used for. This right to be informed is fundamental for the exercise of other rights.
